The lost month....

Oh god, it’s been so long. There really is no excuse for my absence – life’s just been on fast forward for the last month.

Have been up to all sorts of random/ exciting things, so by way of getting back into your good books I thought I’d share a few of them with you.

This is what my mouth has tasted, eyes have seen, and things that have made me smile……

I love a headscarf, (especially when my hair’s being particularly crazy/ I’m being particularly lazy) and this is my current fave. It's an off cut from Zambia. Simples.

I went to this A-MA-ZING Sipsmith/ Providores pop-up restaurant. It was without a doubt one of the best meals of my life. There were 6 courses, and a different Sipsmith vodka or gin cocktail served with each course – it was honestly incredible. I got totally sozzled, and ended up being bundled into a cab by the pr at the end of the night. Classy

Obvs I’ve been keeping my fashion-bitch eye out. Spotted these monstrosities on the tube not so long ago. All I have to say on the matter is that I’m sorry you had to see them too. Really I am.

Yes, he’s a cat in a scarf, which makes him THE coolest cat in the world. He hangs out with a Big Issue seller in Covent Garden, and I'm kinda obsessed with him. I dropped and cracked the screen on my phone taking this picture in fact, so I hope you appreciate it!

This is me while I could still stand at my belated birthday party. I brought the feather skirt out for a special birthday airing, and wore it with a plain vest, shimmering nude and gold tights, and my fave new snakeskin open toe boots. I love birthdays – they’re the one time when you can wear absolutely anything you choose, and I obviously always take full advantage of this. I can’t reveal how old I am as I’m a lady, but I will say I’m old enough to know better….

Mini birthday cupcakes which my lovely friend Henri made me....yummy!

Saw this in Ridley Road market, and still can't believe my eyes. Can you imagine turning up at Heathrow with this? Why would you even need a suitcase this big? How could you wheel it? Where would you store it? And how comes they decided to make it leopard print. Genius, pure genius!

Argh, so obviously I LOVE these Alice Palmer studded tights. I spotted them on her pr at a press day, and had to get a snap. They're the definition of fierce. I NEED these in my life!

Two sisters, one cat, a camera and 5 African outfits

Now – let me just make one thing clear – I’m under no illusions that I’m in anyway model material. Me and my sister Sophie did however get a teensy bit carried away on Sunday, and decided to do a little shoot so I could show off my new Zambian outfits…well it wouldn’t have been fair to shoot them on the hanger now would it!

Forget the high street....

Obviously I didn’t spend my whole time in Zambia sunbathing, eating mangos and drinking Mosi’s….I also managed to squeeze in a bit of shopping and a couple of trips to the tailors. African prints are going to be massive this summer, so I thought I’d seize the opportunity to not only get the real deal, but also knock up some show-stopping, one off, Sisi G outfits…

Nell and Granny took me down to Lusaka to by my Chitenge’s. Here’s Nell looking rather impatient and pissed off as I dragged her into the millionth shop in the midday sun to umm and ahh and generally be very indecisive.

This is me proudly grasping my 4 meters of fabric C19 which was later to become THE best jumpsuit in the world EVER! I thought it had something of the Versace about it....fabulous!

This is the treasure trove, Aladdin’s cave of a Tailors which Nell’s cousin recommended. She was so good I’ve already asked her to make my wedding dress (obvs might need to actually find a man first – minor details though)

They have look books of pictures of Nigerian women at weddings – they range from the outstanding to the outrageous…sometimes in the same outfit! I trawled about 3 books before falling for this pattern.

Ta-da! Here I am happy as larry in my dream jumpsuit during a fitting. Perfection, non?

God – it all really made me long for good decent tailors in London. Just before I left I got the hem on my maxi dress taken up at the dry cleaners opposite work, and was charged a f-ing outrageous £18 for the pleasure! To have 1 jumpsuit, a skirt, top, short dress and maxi dress expertly tailored in Zambia only cost £40 though….what a bloody joke!

Two weeks in Zambia

Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, friend and foes, I’m back….and couldn’t be less pleased. The weathers dreadful, work is in a pre-LFW spin, and I’m exhausted! Zambia on the other hand was phenomenal – right up there on my best holiday ever list with Disney when I was 6; the weather, the food, the scenery – all totally gorgeous. Here’s some pictures of things which caught my eye, inspired me, or I just wanted to share with you ….enjoy!

Me and Nell blinging it up at the Vic Falls

My 25 juicy mango’s which cost 5000 kwacha (approx. 60p)!

My new fave beer, and Zambia’s best!

Me attempting to pound nuts in the village

Nell and the seriously cute village kids - we were both tempted to do an Angelina!

Perfect birthday morning – Peanut butter on toast, AA Gill, oh, and a deserted tropical Island virtually to myself!

Church on Sunday in the village. Me with my little mate rocking a chitenge (the material) like a local….except they don’t match their with harem’s and a sequined T!

Nellie nearly died when she saw this. She is not proud that her country manufactures pvc shoes….!

New clothes in the market…

2nd hand clothes in the market

The make do and mend spirit is still alive and well here….gives us something to think about. There aren’t really many places to by new clothes and shoes, so lots of people by 2nd hand. Love the fact you can get a burger while your shoes are fixed…now that’s what I call multi-tasking

The walk to work….i’ll never complain about the 38 bus again, promise…

Women in the market. I thought people just wore their chitenge on their bottom half, but they in fact wear them over the top of skirts. Also, they’re always paired with random western tops, which i always found disappointing!

Thought these soap powders looked like Warhol! I wanted to buy the whole display and recreate it in my living room….not sure Dalston housemates would have appreciated…

I became a bit obsessed with the hand painted shop signs. If I ever open a boutique I’m going to have a hand painted sign Zambian stylee!

The rather camp (although you don’t do gay in Africa so he’s happily married) Mr Banda who gave me my first ever toe extentions…I know, gross! (p.s. this is obviously Nellie in the pic, not me, I didn’t get that much of a tan)!

My fabulous 1980’s inspired, individually hand painted, very WAH-like (except they only cost about a tenner) fake nails!

Jiri jiri - a Zambian obsession. Ludicrously strong alcohol sold in a sachet for about 20p each....I brought 20 back!

3 generations of the Wightman family….Granny, Nellie and beautiful Onyx. Many thanks for looking after me, and much love xxx

p.s. many thanks also to Chiwala, Brett, George, Regina and all in the village, and everyone else who helped make it such a fantastic fortnight.

Zambia here I come!

Yes girls and boys I’m off again, and this time to Africa! I’m not sure I’ll be able to update while I’m out there, but please check back in two weeks to see all about my African adventure….

Love and kisses,

Sisi G

p.s. And there I was thinking it was only Scots and Marc Jacobs who wore man-skits!
